We have been having a huge problem with getting her to do her homework, she is VERY dependant on others to help (do) her homework for/with her. She was raised by her mother that for 8 years, just gave her the answers, (didnt help her) or if she didnt want to do the work, didnt make her, and just let her do her own thing. She struggles with reading and just using common sense to answer her work problems. She gets mad at us when we make her use (or try to) her head to figure things out on her own. We have tried both positive and negative reinforcements to help with this and even being on meds has not made a difference, she is living with us full time for the school year, but to try and fix the problems from when she was raised by her mom during the crucial learning years is nearly impossible. We need honest answers, and help. How do you get your kids to apply themselves, and to just make an effort to do their work, so many times, it just seems to be laziness, need solutions!!!

I have to write an essay on only one of the books. The essay needs to be on where I think Holden Caulfield (TCITR) or Ellen Foster (EF) will be in 20 years after the novel ends. My 8 year old just started third grade and we have had a problem with him and homework ever since about 1st grade. He makes really good grades in school, but when it comes to his homework, he doesn't seem to remember anything he learned in school. His class and test scores are always good so we don't understand where the break down is. Also when we try to help him, and make him think, instead of just giving him the answer he gets upset and starts crying and fidgeting. It is very frustrating when we know he can do it, we don't know how to make him see that he can do it.

I have to write passages out of a book and I was woundering for it to be proper do I put quotes around it to show that's the passage? And if I have to put quotes on it, how do I write if someone in the book is talking and the passage alrighted has quotes?
Ex: If the book says: John said "Where is my hat?"
How do I write that?
