Just so you can look him up, it's John Locke, a famous philosopher. He was one of Jefferson's main influences in writing the Declaration of Independence....most famous ideas include "inalienable rights" and "social contract." Sound familiar?

Also his two essays that really influenced the way the government was set up were "Essay on HUman Understanding" and "Essay on Two Treatises of Government"

But that's all, I'll leave you to do the project.

John Locke- Two Treatises on Government

You can Google him or check him out in a regular old-fashioned encyclopedia! Imagine! A book with pages and pictures! Wow!

Seriously- The Two Treatises on Government greatly influenced the Founding Fathers (in America) in the formation of their new government once the United States separated from England.
Check it out !

my son's name is locke for john locke, my husband's hero. he was hugely instrumental in paving the way for much of our constitution (john locke, not my husband ;) ). looking it up on wikipedia is a good idea - if i try to write it all here, i'd be on this question for hours!

his major works are "essay concerning human understanding", "two treatise on government", "letter concerning toleration", and "the reasonableness of christianity". he also did a lot of writing on educational theory. he was one of the fathers of empiricism. his works are rather difficult, though. manny (the philosopher) loves him but i (the literature student) can't get into it.

honestly, he's fascinating. have fun!
