I'm a divorced 30-year-old mother of a 7-year-old and am starting college as a freshman this fall (one week, actually). I'm giving serious consideration to a career in psychiatry. However, that means 4 years of pre med, 4 years of med school, and then 4 years of residency. I'm curious as to the success or failure rate of my demographic...older and/or single parent.

I am already in a fire service certification program where I will get my EMT and 240. I do want to go to college though so as to possibly make battalion chief. Are there any really good schools for this around?

I think it's better to get a bachelor's in some sort of science (like biology or chemistry) instead of going into pre-med, because if I decide I don't want to be a doctor anymore, pre-med doesn't have a degree, and I've accomplished nothing. But which course is the best to take that there will be a need for? I'm sort of torn between pharmacy and medical technology, but any other suggestions are appreciated. Thanks!

I just quit my job at Wal-Mart, and I want to go to college. It's probably too late to get financial aid, and I can't afford otherwise. I also don't know what college I could get into right now since they are all about to start if they haven't already. Please help me?
