I'm only three years out of school but the prospect of paying these things off is stifling. Also I am trying to save up to get married and re-enter school in a few years. Any ideas?

I turned in my fafsa really late last year and all I could get was pell grant. I think the texas grant was exhausted. I heard that texas grant is a one-time only grant, so do you think I can get texas grant this year... so is it just a freshmen only grant?

A couple of years ago I heard someone talking about how the Government has to 'give' away so much money per year. Is this true? And if so, what are the quailificatons? I am a single mother of two and although I work I am still considered low income. I do not receive child support. I also live in government funded housing so my rent is based solely on my income. I want to move someplace that my children have more yard to play in and where we could have more room- however at this time I am unable to qualify for a loan and don't want to because I know I would have trouble paying the monthly fee to the bank. Is there some kind of grant (no strings attached) that I would qualify for in order to purchase a home in PA. I say no strings attached because I would not be able to pay anything back-I don't want a loan. And yes, I know I would then be responsible for property taxes each year. I am taking college classes in order to better our lives. Not some deadbeat parent trying to live for free.

The concern is that scholarship providers may assume that since we can afford to provide a private high school education, she will be viewed as someone less likely to need college scholarships.

Thanks for your input!

I've been searching everywhere for scholarships to help my younger sister with college and most of what I found were either for Senior high school students or people who are older than 24 (because they're no longer considered dependents). She's 22. Her major is Psychology and she should be having her AA by June at a junior college with a 3.5 GPA. She wants to work towards a Phd. I'm not sure if this information helps any.

I found a great school, exactly what I am looking for, but the tuition is high. I would have to take out a loan for $20,000 possibly $25,000. Is it worth it?

Ok I am active duty military. I pay state taxes to California, but I am stationed in Washington (WA) state and have a WA Driver's License and own a home in WA.

For tuition purposes, does that make me a legal resident of California or Washington?

$130,000 total in undergrad debts b/w my hubby and I. My husband was accepted into a phd program last year but received zero in financial aid help except for more loans. He deferred for a year and has applied to other schools this year.
We just found out we're pregnant and therefore our financial situation will change before he beings a program. Any advise on getting graduate school paid for without resorting to more loans??

I had to take this semeser off of school because I owed money before I could register for classes. Needless to say I did not have it. I came back to my parents house to work but it is unrealistic to save up the amount of money I need to go back to school. I have tried loans but I have no credit and my parents have bad credit so we get turned down. I have been turned down by family members as cosigners. I have one year left and I just want to finish it up.

I made that much, but now unemployed and in debt. FAFSA would still cover me possibly even looking at my financial earnings?

I'm graduating this June and I'm going to have about 30,000 canadian in student loans. I want to pay off my loans as quickly as I can even if it means sharing a room with someone. I'm planning to take at least 50% of my pay check to go into loans. So maybe around 900 a month, which allows me to pay off my loans in about 3 years. I'm normally a saver anyway and I can live cheaply. I would have just enough money left over for rent and living expenses. My rent would only be about 400 dollars. Plus, I have savings right now that would work as my emergency fund. Do you guys think that it's a good idea and is it worth it financially? My thought is that it would save me on interest even though it would be hard for a few years, but I will be much better off in the long run. Any suggestions?
