I work for a day centre in the UK offering adults with learning difficulties the opportunity to experience work under sheltered conditions. In the new year I wish to start an IT project and I would like to give my clients the chance to communicate with others through the Internet. I thought that might be fun if it was in another country. If you can help I would be very greatful. Thank you

there's a new school policy that's been put in since our new principal came 2 our school.the policy is this:if you want a pass 2 the library during tutorial,u have 2 go & get a pass from the librarian in the morning,b/c the teacher's passes don't count anymore.so i went 2 get a pass from the librarian in the morning,& she said, that i couldn't have 1,b/c i was on the failing students list.now i was doing a research paper that was 4 my semester exam,& it was for 1 of the classes i was failing.so i couldn't do it during tutorial,i have nothing else to do,so i spend 30 mins. doing nothing.i stormed out of the library, crying b/c now i'd have to miss lunch 2 do it.a teacher took me 2 the principal,& she got me a pass from the librarian,4 tutorial, but what do i do the 2 other times i need to go to the library?& any other time?do i always have to go to the principal?what do i do?my teacher thinks its stupid,b/c if ur failing then u should be able 2 go 2 the library to work.i don't know what to do anymore.i'm always going to be on the failing students list.

Now I'm probably just begging to get flamed and bashed by posting this, but here goes. The following is actually an answer I'd given before, but I just decided to put part of it here.

Right now I'm thirteen and I have been homeschooled all my life and I've had plenty of friends (over a hundred!) and yes, there are plenty of homeschoolers out there that may be lacking social activity and stay at home all day studying but I'm definitely not one of those. And btw, that whole thing about homeschoolers being unprepared for the "real world"? Total BS. We have better debating skills, and have the ability to figure out what to do, when we are in a situation where we know not what to do. ;] And for those who think that we're "more likely to become pregnant in the real world", do you honestly think we're THAT dim-witted and uninformed as to let ourselves be so vulnerable? I can't believe it.(Going to add more in the additional information section in a moment.)

I am studying the difficulties faced for sign language users who have never heard sound, in learning to read.

I am particularly interested from the perspective of linguistics. For example is the acquisition of language across hearing and non hearing populations the same? Does having a visual base language help or hinder the process of reading written English? Does phonetics and the ability to hear sound have any major influence?

I would be particularly interested to hear from non hearing people who have faced difficulties in learning to read....what have these difficulties been and how did you overcome them? What developments have been useful and what is still lacking?

I want to hear your views.

Thanks
