there's a new school policy that's been put in since our new principal came 2 our school.the policy is this:if you want a pass 2 the library during tutorial,u have 2 go & get a pass from the librarian in the morning,b/c the teacher's passes don't count anymore.so i went 2 get a pass from the librarian in the morning,& she said, that i couldn't have 1,b/c i was on the failing students list.now i was doing a research paper that was 4 my semester exam,& it was for 1 of the classes i was failing.so i couldn't do it during tutorial,i have nothing else to do,so i spend 30 mins. doing nothing.i stormed out of the library, crying b/c now i'd have to miss lunch 2 do it.a teacher took me 2 the principal,& she got me a pass from the librarian,4 tutorial, but what do i do the 2 other times i need to go to the library?& any other time?do i always have to go to the principal?what do i do?my teacher thinks its stupid,b/c if ur failing then u should be able 2 go 2 the library to work.i don't know what to do anymore.i'm always going to be on the failing students list.

This policy has delibratley set you up to fail permanently. Was their goal to have fewer students at the school? Or keep students for life? If you are failing that is all the more reason to have access to the library to improve your course work.

What school doesn't allow students to use the library? Is this a university or k-12 school? If it's a university contact the dean of the college you're attending, student services, and rally other students against this policy. Also, contact the local media with a document showing this policy.

If you're at a public school get your parents involved and meet with the principal and librarian. If you don't get anywhere, again contact the local media. I could see the headlines now, "A school that sets up students to fail." Good luck!

I've worked in the schools for 20 yrs., so maybe I can give a little insight. First off, I know you're really hyped now but you have to calm down. Going in hysterical will make it much worse. (I'm an emotional one, too, so I really do get how hard this is!) Having worked in many hs settings, I can attest to the fact that most (obviously not true here) failing students are failing because they simply don't do the work. A library pass is just a ticket out of class, so they can screw around with their buds.

Solution: see if your teacher will meet w/librarian and counselor (w/ or w/o you there) to make sure you can use your study time effectively. Have a plan--this makes you look organized as well as motivated to do what must be done to pass. Agree to be monitored if necessary. If you're really doing the work, staff will easily be able to see that when they walk by. This offer will make you look credible to those who doubt that you really want to pass.

Good luck.

Rules are rules. Unless you get more people to complain their isn't much you can do.

Now you can go to the library after school and check some books out that you need to bring to your tutorial or you can go to your public library for books. You can also do your homework outside of school. Why is it so important that you have to go to the library during tutorial? You can go to any public library when you want. Besides a public library will have a better selection than the school library.

Unfortunately the public schools do not seem to want to negotiate with students. Talk to your parents about it and have one of them have a conference with the principal. If you arent satisfied with the outcome then have one of your parents contact your school district's central office.

ask your teacher to talk some sense into the librarian or the principal

I know that this doesn't help, but you know, this is very much like "real life".

Sucks that you get to taste the bitter fruit of bureaucracy so early.

That's pretty stupid. You should bring this up with a councilor.
