As much as I try, my critical reading scores are always mediocre. In freshman year, I scored a 350 on my Critical reading, then in Sophmore year I raised it to a 500. I want to get my score to go in the 600's or better.

I know the format well enough by now. I also watched a dvd, read a little bit of Barron's and prepared via College Board's own online course. I still have trouble. My score is in between a 500-600. If I'm lucky, I can get it in between 540-600 or if I'm down below...I get a 500 borderline. I'm kind of worried. Perhaps those who are good at tackling the CR portion can suggest tips or tricks that can help me do better?

thanks!

In my search for graduate schools, I've come across a couple of those that do not need the GREs. While I certainly do not have any love of ETS I can't help but be very suspicious.

Also makes me a little skeptical about the schools that do not require the LSATs and SATs. Any thoughts?

That quote is inaccurate, but it's the best I could remember. Does anyone know the original quote?

It's something along the lines of,
"If, out of time, I could pick one memory and keep it always shining and new, out of all the something something, it would be the memory of the moment I met you."

Right now, I am a Junior, currently with straight A's. I am taking AP Language and Composition, AP European History, and AP Chemistry. They are my favorite classes; they are the most interesting and stimulating, so I don't mind the extra work. I'm feeling pretty confident, and I'm looking at taking 5 or 6 APs next year (out of 7 classes). I'm leaning towards 5, because I don't want to over do it. Recommendations?

It was an elective within my major, but I found it too demanding and not worth it, so I dropped it and got a W (withdrawal). I don't have any other W's. Do you think grad schools will find this a problem when reviewing my application?

I'm in my senior year of college, and this recent summer, I did research for a professor (she). I did really well, and we got along, and she liked me very much, said I did very well. I thus asked her to write a letter of recommendation for me, in support of my application to graduate school next year, which I am preparing right now. I asked her during the last few weeks I worked with her, in early September, and told her that it's no rush, since the deadlines are December. Well, it's getting close to there. We're in different cities, so I've talked to her through e-mail, and she says she'll "get right on it" asap, since she has grant apps for her own research and stuff. But now I'm slightly nervous and angry, since I did give her a full three months, and I believe this letter will make or break my application (I really do believe she will write a wonderful reference for me). So I need to push her for the letter. But how do I do so? Do I have the right, giving her all this time?

I'm graduating next semester with a Bachelor's degree- Major in Linguistics and Asian Studies.

I really enjoy linguistics and would like a job in the field, but I'm having trouble thinking of jobs. Things like programming language software sounds interesting, but I have no programming skills at all.

I'm thinking of maybe being a lexicographer, use linguistics in the foresnsics field, or being a librarian.

What are your thoughts and suggestions? Keep in mind, I can't specialize beyond what I have- anything more will have to be training offered by my employer.

Can I get a professor who taught a class I took called "Asian-American Literature" write me a recommendation letter for an MA in Film and Media Theory? Those subjects are soooo unrelated but I like that professor and I'm certain she'll write me a good one. What do you think?
