Programming & Design - November 2006

Hmmm.. I need an idea for my upcoming C++ Project. The theme is "animation". We must include the delay() function in the program.

My best bet will be making "falling text" like the ones in the Matrix. Wow! But I'm not sure this animation will perform well. I need to use the String() class and making positioning accurately while maintaining the algorithms to run efficiently.

Another bet is to make.. to make.. I dunno.. Hahahahahaha.. I have been pretty stressful lately because of the upcoming monthly test.

This is more of a rant than a question, but I'm willing to entertain rational arguments. Why do Flash web designers see fit to create their own scrollbars that don't function the same as normal scrollbars, in that A) they have no arrows to scroll a line at a time; and B) don't scroll up or down a page when you click the empty space below the bar, forcing you to drag the bar as the only possible way to scroll the text? (See http://www.cit.cmu.edu) WHAT ARE THESE PSYCHO PEOPLE THINKING? What in creation would possess them to do this? Are there not existing scrollbar widgets that function properly that they can use? Is this a Flash defect of some sort? Is this some perverse Web fashion trend -- the cyberspace equivalent of neckties or high heels? Who is responsible for this and can I string them up until all the blood rushes to their heads and makes them dizzy and sick?

Go ahead and ask me to tell you how I really feel!

Here is the actual thing:
Your biology project is to determine the rate of growth of a particular type of bacteria. You suspect that the bacteria population increases at the same rate as the Fibonacci numbers. In this sequence of numbers, each number is equal to the sum of its 2 immiediate predecessors. Therefore, the first few Fibonacci Numbers are
0 1 1 2 3 5 8 13....
Assume that the Bacteria reproduce once every minute. You will be starting with a single bacterium. The program should allow you to enter a given number of minutes. Then the number of bacteria at the end of this time should be output. Use a FOR...Next Loop.

i have a transaction ID that I want to filter out, can it be done after the transaction is in the system? will the filter filter-out transactions that have laready been recorded? what regular exression should I use to exclude the transaction id: artist-345

I have a great running Invision free board, but the member title, like where you would type "member, administrator" etc. needs to change colors. It pretty much ruins the board if its not colored, (long story) Can anyone show me how to do it? I'm an administrator, so I have the admini cp and mod cp available for access. I think it is HTML, I tried the [COLOR/] codes and all, even tags and urls and img's from photobucket..nothing seems to work..and I really think its Html. Please help. Thanks, Jessie.

I've heard a lot of pros and cons about this download. After hearing all of the problems people have, I'm not sure whether or not I should do it.

My windows update notice keeps telling me I should. What's the experience you have had with it. I read somewhere that it does not have the Java Platform. Does it work?

Ok, first I don't even think I'm in the right category. Second, does ANYONE know how you make banners on the computer? I don't really know how to be anymore specific. I have four button images I want to be able to use as background images, clickable over (above) address texts. All four of the button images are 88px by 31px. In two cases, the < a > text to be displayed under the button is narrower than the button. In the other two cases the < a > text is wider than the button. I have tried setting padding *above* the text and positioning the button "top center", that works so far, but in the case of the shorter text, the button gets truncated...or if I define a block then things start to get messy. (I'd like the text centered under the button, with line breaks automatically when needed: asking too much?) Suggestions?
