For example is it possible through hyperterminal or other remote desktop software available somewhere?

the primary requirement is that i should not connect via internet but just through modem line. both the computers have got 56k modem.

I am having one router with two ports( one for incoming internet connection and other for PC).
Now I want to connect laptop and PC to internet .
Is it possible via this configuration ?
If yes, how ? otherwise what extra do I need ? How to connect those ?

I want to transfer data that is on a cd to my hard drive how do i do this?
When i insert the cd it has an option to run the program but does not give me an option to install. What can I do?? Please help!! thanks
