Ok, I have a five year old Toshiba Satellite laptop, and I'd like to reinstall Win 98 on it. I did a complete reformat on the c drive (It was REALLY a mess), and have a boot disk and Windows 98. Here's the problem: I use the boot disk to get it up and running, and I see that drivers are being installed, including one for the cd drive. I search for the CD drive, and it's nowhere to be found. How can I find it? I've gone through the entire alphabet, and I have A, B, C and R (no idea, it's not the CD drive, I know that). What can I do to get it up and running? Is there a different boot disk I need? This one is for Win98 SE, which matches what I have. Any suggestions?

I have a full windows partition that has all of my important files. Is it possible to install Linux on this hard drive without reformatting my data?

I tried using KNOPPIX, but I was unable to open any data from my C drive with it. I couldn't delete files either. I have reason to believe that Linux could come in handy in the event of a trojan attack. The way I see it is I could boot to linux and delete the infected files but with KNOPPIX that doesn't seem possible.

So a CD distro is probably out of the question. Is there any other way to use linux on a computer w/ a full NTFS partition?

I just got a new laptop. I need to transfer all the files (MP3, pics, word docs) from my old laptop to my new laptop. I have an external hardrive available if I need it. How EXACTALLY do I get the files from one hard drive to another? I've heard people say you can transfer files from one computer to another, I just don't quite understand how you connect A to B to get the info from A to B...if you get what I mean. Help!

I finally figured that sub-code out(with some hints from others)..For those who do not know, this is a simple way to read an input file containing scores for 3 exams(in this case, of 6 students), and output the highest in each exam...

//Sample Program 12- A non-interactive program to calculate student grades.
//**************************************************************************************
#include
#include
#include
#include
using namespace std;

const int SIZE=6;
int GetHighValue(int array[]);

int main()
{
int exam1Array[SIZE];
int exam2Array[SIZE];
int exam3Array[SIZE];
int i=0;
string name;
ifstream inFile;

inFile.open("grades.dat");
if(!inFile)
{
cout<<"Unable to open input file, program abnormally ended";
return 1;
}
for(i=0; i {

inFile>>name>>exam1Array[i]>>exam2Array[i]>>exam3Array[i];

}

GetHighValue(exam1Array);
cout<<"The highest for exam 1 is"< GetHighValue(exam2Array);
cout<<"The highest for exam 2 is"< GetHighValue(exam3Array);
cout<<"The highest for exam 3 is"<

return 0;
}

int GetHighValue(/*in*/ int array[])
{
int highScore=0;
int i=0;

for(i=0; i {
if(array[i]>highScore)
highScore=array[i];
}

return highScore;
}

I just fried my emachine's motherboard and I'm looking to upgrade. I figure there is no reason to replace it for a $100 when I can get an upgrade for $200+ that will last me for a few years. Any suggestions on good motherboards? I am looking for the lastest ones. Do I have to upgrade to another emachine motherboard? Will my emachine restore disk install Windows XP?
