okay my friend she has a gateway laptop idk the model but she forgot the password to her admin. account so now she can't get back in she's tried everything, and she can't change her current account type, or make a new admin. account. what should she do?!

Sorry if you have forgotten the windows admin password then the only thing you have to do is formatting the hard disk, however, you can backup all your data by booting using the boot floppy or boot CD in command prompt and then storing the same on some removable media.

Press F8 continoussly while the machine is booting, this will take u to a menu. Choose safe mode. This will log you on to ur default admin account. Now create any account you want and reboot.

She could probably call up the Gateway help center and they can talk her through a possible way to re-set the password. Or, first, she might want to try going into the setup when you first start up the computer (normally it says to press a certain button such as F4 or F5 to enter setup) and she might be able to reset it from there.

Boot the laptop with the Bootable floopy or the rescue disc, after that you can change the password of all the users.

Restore the computer back to its original state by using the restore CD.
