My gf just started working at a local bar/night club as a shot-girl and waitress. Apparently, the new owner is just hiring local college girls left and right without even checking their driver's licenses (he hired a 17 yr old to serve alcohol). The guy intends to pay under the table. He also said that he doesn't care if they take a few drinks while working.
My question is: is this common? How illegal is it? And most importantly, could my gf get in trouble with the IRS etc. for not paying taxes on ANYTHING?
I'm 19 and I've only ever worked in pizza delivery, so I don't know how most of these places do business.Thanks.

I've heard it's minimum wage plus commission, but I've also heard that the work is anywhere from 29-80 hours a week, so that's a huge difference in pay. I was hoping that some one that's worked as a seasonal tax preparer for H&R block could tell me how much they make on average for the 4 months (along with average hours a week). I'm majoring in accounting, so I thought this would be good experience, but I have a job I love already, so I don't want to do this year round (I have 2 young children and I would never see them!! :)

I am very new to this; I am going from a large corporation where I never had to think of this. But I have accepted a job with a corporation out of NY. I am the only employee in California. I receive Medical and Dental and was under the impression that my responsibility was to pay my part of the taxes on my own...............Fine, I can do that no problem. But I am being told that the Company will not be paying their half of FICA or SS or Unemployment since I am 1099. I feel like I am getting the shaft here. Can they do this if I am an employee not under contract or limited term? I was told they are doing this because they are not set up in California as an employer, but why would that stop them from paying half of the fed taxes on the employer side? I have an appointment with a CPA, but that is a week away and I am having trouble keeping my worries at bay. Any help would be appreciated.......Thanks

My friend is coming to Australia for 2 weeks, she has a return ticket to the US, but she owes just under $1000 US in taxes, which were due to be paid by June this yr. Will they stop her from leaving the country as she has unpaid taxes, or will she be ok as she has a return ticket. (she didnt pay for the ticket if that helps).

Do I get more money by claiming my children during the year or should I get taxed harder and get a bigger refund? Is one better than the other, or does it all equal out in the end?

I would like to know how to donate a vehicle, and how to calculate the tax deduction (federal tax ? state tax). Who I should contact with?

I have an used car current market price is about $5000, and would like to sale or donate, but this car requires $1500 to repair if I want to sale it. I would like to know if make vehicle donation (sorry, I won't fix the car) will be better for me.

Please don't give me any answer like "Giving it to someone in need of a car will be a lot more charitible ..." or "make you feel pretty good to help others ...", I am not in the level to give away few thousands, so please give me advice if you know anything about vehicle donation.
Thanks

Just wondered how that worked. I work for a TV production compan and wanted to find out if forced hiatus was normal, and if it is, does a production company still pay you for that time off? My company forces us to take any week off work when there is a federal holiday, just so they don't have to pay the holiday pay. is that normal?

These are slackers or people who were able to weezle "cake jobs" not execs. They also show up late, leave early and disappear for hours (?). The best part is those in charge do nothing about it.
