I've been working with my company for a year now and for my review- i was told that i may take a 1000.00 bonus in one lump sum or 11.57 raise. I'm currently making 10.57. What will they tax more and how much will be taken if i choose the bonus? I plan to leave my job in April due to maternity leave so some say the bonus would be the smarter choice. Thanks.

We are planning on buying a house next year, should we file with itemized deductions at the end of the year? I have heard that interest on a mortgage is tax deductable. If we do itemize our deductions, how should we prepare for that? What receipts/records should we save?

I hear about how all of these charity donations that I make are a 'tax write-off' but how do I file for that? How does the whole thing work? I've donated about $150 this year..

I've always claimed single zero and yes, the IRS taxed the crap out of my paycheck but always managed to receive a healthy refund at the end of the year, however, early this year i got married and my wife does not work, i wonder if there is a way i can increase my take home and still receive a not so healthy refund? it beats oweing the IRS.

I'm single and a student, paying my own tuition so I get to use a lot of deductions filling out my taxes in march. I also don't make much money, the most I've ever gotten back from my federal taxes was just under $1,000. My question is, if I want more money taken out of my pay to get more back in March, do I claim one or zero?

I read that student loan interest was tax deductable no matter how you do your taxes. Is this true? We always take the standard deduction and this is the first year we have started paying student loans that were in deferment.

Hello Everyone,

I need your help with a tax issue. I'm 23 years old and I've never filed taxes before, and up until 2005 I didn't need to. I made about $15,000 last year, but I didn't file taxes. I returned to school this fall and I need financial aid from the government. So I am currently doing my 2005 taxes. There is one huge problem though:

$4235 of the $15000 I made was untaxed. Apparently, a company I worked for earlier in the year made a mistake with the number of exemptions I put down, and I didn't catch it.

How much do you think I will owe in taxes when I do my tax return?
