Have a voucher to send your child to a private school for a semester or two, paid for by the government?

It would really be your money anyway, not really the government's, because you would be skipping your tax refund

If you want to pursue a masters degree and you are working at the same time can you deduct the cost of tuition, books, fees , etc etc off of your taxes? A seperate but related question: If your child is pursuing their first bachelors degree and going to college as a traditional freshman (straight out of high school) , and you are helping them pay for tuition, books, fees, room and board, can you deduct these cost off of your taxes?

My friend recently married and her hubby owes the
IRS for an overpayment they just found from 2002. Is it possible for her to file taxes in Jan 2008 seperate from him and claim their kids so that they don't seize the entire tax return and if so, how?

I'm 21 y/o and I never filed taxes before. The reason being is because people have told me it wasn't neccessary since I'm a student. I've worked plenty of jobs from the age of 16 up unitl now. Every job I've had I always filed exempted except for probably one job. I decided I was going to file my taxes this year since I have a child thats due in Sept. and I can claim her. Right now I'm working on an internship that pays pretty good and I had a job earlier this year with a Mortgage company but they're closed down for business, which means at the end of the year I will only recieve 2 income tax returns. If I file this year, do you think I will owe the IRS any money from the previous years and if so how much?? I don't want to claim my child then have the govr'n take away my whole refund.

One more thing....Am I eliglible for a refund if I filed exempt with my internship?? I didn't file exempt with the Mortgage company but I was only there for about 2 months total.

i live in texas and the taxes on this land have not been paid for over 7 yrs but the tax office says it has to get to a certain $ before they auction it off. well someone told us that we could pay the owed taxes and keep paying them for five yrs and take pictures of the land before and after we cleaned it up then put a fence around it saying no trespassing and leave it like this for 5 yrs while we continue to pay the taxes and then go to a land attorney or whatever they are called and file something and the land will become ours if the owner still never shows up is this true has anyone of yall ever done this??

I work full time, no kids, no mortgage, no school, no car payment, etc... I dont know what else exempts you from paying taxes. I heard the lower the number the more taxes they take out, but you will get more on your return.

Darling hubby and I live in Michigan. We are trying to figure out the most beneficial way to file our taxes so that we get the maximum return. Also we would like to start withholding less from our paycheck. Hubby has the health insurance & dental as well as our 401K deducted from his pay. I have none of the above. He actually makes less per hour but gets overtime and I only put in 38.5hrs/wk because my employer does not want to pay for health insurance. I also have a second job that doesn't exceed the 1000.00/yr limit. What is the best way to set up our withholdings so we get the maximum amt in our paycheck without jeapordizing our return? And what is the best way to file... married/jointly (for state) or just married (for state)?
Thanks!! :o)

Hi there

I am taking over a Limited company from my Mum and Dad. It was set up a couple of months ago only.

I want to avoid paying huge accountants fees for what I understand is a straight forward process of change. Would anyone be able to confirm that or shed light on the below:

1) Inform Companies House?
2) Inform HMRC?
3) I was also told that Share Ownership has to be transferred. Is this easy to do myself? If so how? Help!!
4) As my mum/dad didn't take any money from the business - this would not affect their tax position would it?
5) Can I leave my dad as company secretary? This won't have any tax implications would it as he is retired, and would just be a secretary in name only - nothing else/no involvement!

Is there anything else I need to consider?
Help!!

Do they take out a certain percentage like state tax? If so how much? I'm trying to figure out how much my take home pay will be. I also know that it depends on how many exemptions you claim.

Someone told me that I could file my taxes anytime I wanted to as long as I was getting money back. The government always takes my refund, so I didn't bother doing my taxes; however, I have recently decided I want to go back to school, and I need my tax info. How would I get the tax forms to fill out if I still can? Any help would be appreciated.

I will be inheriting $11,000 from my grandparents' estate in the near future. The money is revenue from stocks, and will be evenly distributed 4 ways. Taxes have already been taken out, and the money has been put in to a bank account in the name of the estate. Can I receive the full $11,000 without it being taxed again, or should I take some of it this year and the rest next year?

lets say you enter an assignable contract on a home at 100 k, assign it to someone at 200 k, and the difference is cut back to you at closing, do you have to pay tax on that $100,000 profit? if so, what kind of tax is it called and how much as a dollar amount and what is the typical percentage? use the example above to explain if possible.
thanks a lot
