Taxes are an essential part of the government, are some taxes pointless and misappropriated, yes, but unfortunately we need a governmental system to keep order it is human nature to degrade society, and taxes pay for that government.

Well yes taxes are high However if you use public things like Highways, Parks, and other public things these have to be maintained so we have taxes to do these things.
Then people that are down there luck or out of work or can't our country doesn't just let them live on the street homeless unless they want to so there are programs for things such as assistance for low income family's with children. Mentally disabled along with other disabilities. Oh then the Elder care and Social Security payments.
What should happen is a Flat Tax whether your Billionaire Bill Gates or a lowly person that only makes a few Thousand dollars a year. Say something Like 15% of all earned income per year. In this way instead of always soaking the rich1% with 90% of the Taxes and those earning under $ 50,000 getting all there taxes back and more this would be fair around the board.
Of course this would be far to simple and would put many out of work such as IRS Goverment workers and tax prepares like H & R Block People.

OK, let's dump ALL taxes. Let's see what happens.
Police are privatized. Need a cop? Pull out your checkbook!
Roads are privatized. Toll booths at every intersection!
Schools are privatized. Pull out your checkbook every September!
Airway safety is privatized. Airfares will double or more.
Highway safety is privatized. Whoops! Higher tolls on all of those toll booths!
National Defense is privatized. Pres wants to invade Iraq or go after bin LardAss? You'll get a MASSIVE bill in the mail and you'd better be prepared to pay it NOW.
Hmmm... This isn't such a good idea after all, is it?
FYI, if you're in the US, count your blessings! Your tax bite is one of the LOWEST in the industrialized world. If you think it's bad, move to Europe. Taxes are as much as DOUBLE what they are in the US in many European countries. Try $4 a gallon in tax alone for gasoline; that makes the pump price over $7 a gallon in much of Europe. And even at that price, the tolls on the French Autoroutes will cost you MORE than the gas you burn on your trip! How's THAT for expensive!

Taxes are stupid but we have them in place to pay for the military, financial assistance to low income families and individuals, local police, public schools and prisons etc. If there were no taxes there would be no law and USA would be a Third World Country.

Taxes are too high, but they are necessary. Taxes pay to build and repair the roads you drive on, public schools, health services, public assistance, etc. etc.
You get the idea, but while we may over taxed, taxes are a necessity
Heaven26 taxes pay the salary of police officers.

Part 1 - they're not really any higher this year than last-totally different perspective, though.
Part 2 - Ever driven on a road? Ever seen a police officer? Ever seen a fire engine? Ever seen a teacher? Ever seen a mailman? Ever seen a member of the US military? The list goes on and on, but that's why we have taxes in the first place.

We have foreign governments to pay off and prop up; and all the corrupt money grubbing politicians in this country who depend on us to pay taxes so they can live free and well off and retire wealthy with tax free pensions and medical care and the list goes on. Get back to work or big brother will put you in a reeducation center for having impure thoughts. Heil Hitler.

Some level of taxation is necessary to provide us with firefighters, police officers, roads, schools, water treatment plants, etc...all very important things.
Whether or not there are some programs that could be eliminated and/or whether the money could be used more efficiently is a different story. But certainly there needs to be some level of taxation in a civilized society.

no one enjoys taxes. but how do you think we keep the streets, the parks, the roads, the sidewalks, the lights, the trees that line the streets, the police, the fire, the public schools, and all that running. and don't forget the garbage and the sewer. If you don't want any of those things then we'd live in dirty streets with dead trees, broken sidewalks and sterets, no police no fireman no schools no one picking up garbage and it would be chaos. and it would stink.
