Hello,

I am 19 years old, My Step-father claims me under his taxes and well I just got a job (I dont go to school) and my manager made me fill out this W-4 Form and he then asked me "Do you want to put down 0 or 1"? Now I don't know which one to put down, I mean I know "0" gets you back more money at the end of the year but with "1" you get little back but more in your paycheck.

Also, I don't leave my step-father anymore, I am staying at my Girlfriend's parents house (in which they don't want to claim me under their taxes).

Even tho my Step-father claims me, can I put down "1"?

I moved since I filed for the state tax return in MS. On their computer the refund check was already sent out. I was wondering if they allow the refund check to forward to the address if I request it at postoffice. I tried to call MS tax people, but the line was always busy and I was never able to talk to anyone there. If anyone knows please help!!

About 10 years ago I bought a piece of land for $58,000 zoned residential in a rural township in the upper midwest. The tax bill should be around $1300/year. ------------------------- The third year I owned it the tax bill was for a different piece of property for only $130. I notified them, they corrected it, and I paid the $1300. The next year they had corrected all the information on the tax bill - except the value. So I got another bill for $130 and have every year since. ------------------------------------- Originally, I had planned on building a home there but due to unforeseen changes in my life I'm considering selling it. What is going to happen when I go to sell it? Will I be reponsible for the approximately $10k they short-billed me? (I am also posting this in the real estate category)

Can someone tell me the step by step process of donating clothing to goodwill store or similar style places and bing able to get the tax deduction. I have to use the long form for tazes anyway so might as well get the deduction if I can. Oh, This is mainly for used clothing and household goods. Good clean stuff thats left over from multi family house cleaning and yardsale.
Thanks!
I've never donated anything to get the deduction before, my prvious deductions have been drop offs. So I dont know what to expect. Also, Does it matter for taxes when the donation takes place? Such as there is a goodwill store close by in the next state.
Thanks again for any helpful answers!

I am trying to do some tax planning prior to selling a stock I have held for a long time (over 5 years). From my understanding, long term capital gains are taxed at 15% rate unless your taxable income would otherwise put you into a lower tax bracket, in which the long term rate is then 5%. Is the gain from the sale of the tax part of the taxable income? I have a very small annual income of about $20,000, but when I sell the stock, I will have a gain of about $500,000. Will it be taxed at 15% rate or due to my low income, will it be taxed at 5%? And if I wait until 2008 (maybe 2009) will it be taxed at 0%? The tax laws are very confusing in this area. Please help me out.

My fiancee and I are about to start a new business, but I'm having personal problems with the IRS. If things don't work out with the IRS, I don't want to lose the business. Will incorporating the business seperate it from my personal issues and protect it from any IRS actions that may be taken against me?
