No, because most of Japanese cars are made in USA! therefore, tariff dose not work to help US auto companies.
In fact, Japanese auto makers pay millions of $ of tax to local gov. and providing thouthands of jobs to Americans.
This is the fact.

No, tariffs always end up costing more than they save, they distort competition making domestic firms weaker, and harm the consumer by making things more costly than they would be in perfect competition.
If you want to help Detroit, buy the most competitive car you can find for the features you want. Make them earn their money and they will do quite well. So will America.

Well, It's funny for me to be saying this since I actually think japanese cars are much better quality and personally drive one for that reason. BUT..
Japan is very inhospitable to US car manufacturers. They have trade policies that make it nearly impossible for US cars to sell there.
So if other countries play fair, I don't think we should be unfair, but since Japan is basically waging warfare on US companies the Us government has an obligation to protect the interest of our companies (just like Japan is doing for its companies)
For that reason I think until Japan changes it's attitude, the US government should outright ban japanese cars.
Not just tarrifs, but absolutely refuse to let them sell here.

I don't believe they should. A lot of the Japanese cars are made here in the US anyway. I think the US just needs to make cars safer, cheaper and with better gas mileage to compete with them. They already have the technology to do it but they are in cahoots with the gas companies

I believe they should too. Our economy sucks right now and it would really help out. Plus people would think twice before buying foreign made cars and maybe more would buy american.
