I am wondering if anyone could explain to me why all of the prices that I see in the United States are always ending with .99 or .95. I guess it is because of taxes but I do not understand why!! Any explanation is welcome! Thanxalot!

I received a letter that I was being audited for my 2004 return. I promptly along with my tax preparer sent all of my receipts and proof. For the next 7 mo's I have been getting a letter each month that says "We are still reviewing". Then last week a get a letter that says nothing about my 2004 return audit results. But instead says We Changed your account - We changed your 2003 federal return because of your recent audit. Please see copy of report for detailed explanation. I have received NO such report and now they are trying to bill me $10,000 for 2003! Help! What can I do???

My parents need IRS documentation to show that they don't need to file income tax returns anymore, because they've already retired and receive only SSA pension and SSI benefits as their income, amounting to less than 10 grand per annum combined, for both of them.

Anybody out there knows specifically where in the IRS website it can be found? Or any other source?

I know a woman who hasn't filed her taxes with the IRS over the last four years. She hasn't done this because she is a single parent and doesn't wish to pay for childcare. This woman makes almost $50,000/year and receives child support from her ex-husband. Her self-admitance is the only proof I have. Can I still report her for tax evasion, and how would I do it?

I recently got divorced. I have to sign over 1/2 of my 401k to her. I am thinking of asking her to buy her out less any taxes she would have been charged. What percentage is taken out of a 401k when removed. I am trying to think of an offer to give her. The 401k is not alot. (24,000) She gets 12k. Any Ideas?

He is 18 years old and has Down Syndrome. As we understand it, he will receive money and pay some of it to us (his parents) for room and board. Do we pay income tax on that money, too? Any information anyone has on SSI/Disability payments would be gratefully accepted!

Also, is it only for cash deposits, or can the deposits be checks or money transfers as well which would trigger the banks to inform the IRS?

As a single working taxpayer I believe that students should pay income tax like everybody else. Theyt already get cheap housing and cheap loans. IE if I went to my bank and said I want a loan but can't start to pay you back for five years I woulod get laughed out of the building. Also since the introduction of Tuition fees, where has the portion of my Income tax gone that was previously used to make university education free for all. I haven't had a rebate for that part of my tax bill and probably never will. Do you think students have it too good and should start living in the real world and have to pay for things like everybody else does.

Can anyone give me some good advice? I'm single, 25 and live in Oregon. I have worked for a real estate investment company since August 2005. I get paid at the end of the year through a 1099-Misc. I will gross around $50k this year. I know that deductions will help with reducing my taxes, but is there any reason for me to start my own business and have my employer pay my business instead of me, to help reduce all the taxes that I will end up paying to the Feds and State?
I would appreciate any advice!
Thank you much!
