Exxon-Mobile isn't just helping to contaminate the atmosphere. It's trying to contaminate the public awareness of global warming as well.

A study by the Union of Concerned Scientists concluded that Exxon donated $15+ Million in 2006 to groups that, "don't speak for the company," but that are set up to spread their propaganda anyway. It's a little scheme called "idea laundering" or something that the PR industry calls "astroturfing". They put the money and propaganda into groups that will do their bidding. Then they say, "The groups do not speak for the company." The groups confirm it, of course.

This is a bit like Bill Clinton saying that he did not have sexual relations with, "that woman." It depends on how you define "sexual relations" or, in Exxon's case, "...speaking for." True, they didn't give the groups the money to be Exxon's spokespeople. Exxon just needed them to say that global warming could be part of the normal cycle of the earth. The difference is merely semantic.

I got a letter in the mail a while ago, but didn't fill it out or send it in, is it too late to be part of the settlement? I didn't realize what was really going on and didn't realize that I could have been part of the suit based on why it happened. I guess it was because they where charging too much for the refund anticipation loans, which I recieved 4 years in a row from them. Any help would be much appreciated.

The appraisal was done by a local jeweler (I believe for insurance purposes). Someone told me that the value I could sell it for it only a percentage of the appraisal. The ring is a yellow gold engagement ring with diamond.

Would like an expert opinion, please, or an opinion of someone who has been in this situation.

Thanks in advance!

Right, I set up a UK limited company a year ago, since then I've sold 75% of shares to partners. I was banking with a bank, but they pissed me off so I left. When I went to get another bank account with another bank I was told I couldn't because I've got a bad credit rating. Can anyone suggest how I get out of this mess, can I put funds paid to my company into another bank account or is that improper/illegal. Please help!!

My step-son died in a car accident this week, and we have tossed around the idea of a memorial fund for him. My idea of memorial fund is that money is collected and donated to something. Some of the family may think it should be used to pay for the funeral. I am concerned that some people may be mis-led as to where their money is going. Please help - we are deciding this today!

Calling for information on credit accounts, car loans, etc; more often than not, I end up talking to someone that I cannot understand. You know you're in trouble when you can't understand their name. What can we as consumers do about all this outsourcing of CS jobs to overseas? Where they train someone to say 'Hi. My name is Steve'...I get so mad by the end of the call, I usually hang up...Is it wrong to ask for someone that speaks American and without an accent?

What do I need to do to enable my business to accept payments by credit card? This would be over the phone, not on line or in person.

Who do I speak to? What are the charges? What equipment will I need?

Not sure if the costs outweigh the benefit of being able to deal with companies who I wouldn't want to give trade credit to!

thanks
