The rest of the 90% of the donated clothing is sold to textile and recycling institutions.

According to various estimates, here's what happens to your clothing giveaways. In most cases, a small amount of the items, the best quality castoffs — less than 10 percent of donations -- are kept by the charitable institutions and sold in their thrift shops to other Americans looking for a bargain. These buyers could be people who are hard up, or they could be folks who like the idea of a good deal on a stylish old item that no longer can be found in regular stores.

The remaining 90 percent or more of what you give away is sold by the charitable institution to textile recycling firms. Bernard Brill, of the Secondary Recycled Textiles Association, told ABC News: "Our industry buys from charitable institutions, hundred of millions of dollars worth of clothing every year."

So, at this point, the charity you have donated clothes to has earned money off of them in two ways — in their shops and by selling to recyclers. Then the recycler kicks into high gear. Most of the clothes are recycled into cleaning cloths and other industrial items, for which the recyclers say they make a modest profit.

I have a PC case sealed in its original box that needs to be delivered via ups. I don't have another box to put it into. Is it okay by ups standards to ship it in the original box - without trying to cover up the manufacturers pics and info? It was delivered to me by DHL in this condition so I was wondering if it was okay for me to ship via UPS this way?? I hope that makes sense. Thanks.

I have a 2 bed / 2 bath condo in Tempe AZ that we rent out -- in the past it has been a normal tenant lease but we now have a small Internet marketing firm that wants to rent it for their traveling "executives" -- one that will be there 75% of the time and the others will be traveling in and out of town... What type of lease will we need to have (we will require that the lease be in the company owner's name vs their company) and what do we need to know? I have added a $150 cleaning fee to the regular security deposit and will do a 6 month vs 12 month lease to see how it goes.... advice and suggestions from folks with experience in this area is MUCH appreciated -- this is a significant investment for me and while I don't want to jump at just anyone who is applying, we have had the unit vacant for 2 months now and I think if we know what we are getting into and handle this in a smart way it will be OK... thanks!

today i got a phone call from Con Edison, saying that they could save me a money on my electric bill. Now i went along with it, giving them the information(name, account number...etc) Finally the transaction was complete. Now im reading on sites about the IDT energy scams...i think i might have been scammed.

Could it have been the IDT calling me. And about teh account number, the "con edison" rep gave it to me first , and only made me repeat it. Its not like she didnt know it. Also, there was a con Edison recording voice that was confriming what i did.

Please help!!! i want to know if i had been scammed, or is this a legit money saving thing.

PS-they called around 6pm

I recently sold a laptop on ebay and sent it via usps insured mail. Buyer got it and it was damaged. Instead of going through usps insurance, they are demanding I pay them for repairs! If I want to go through usps, they wand a full refund and then they'll send me the laptop to get my money back. Also, if I do not pay the 50 dollars repair in the next day they are going to file a claim with their credit card and paypal against me. I am new to ebay. I am wondering what to do, I figured it is usps problem for damaging it, not me! And the buyer is just refusing to work any other way than direct money from me to repair it, claiming usps will take the the laptop for months until a refund is done and that only I can get the refund and only i can take in the item. Of course I found out the buyer can take it in too. What should I do?
