Even if the debtor has no assets, is unemployed, and the account is over six years old. Why would a bill collector agree to waive interest fees, and accept payments this low for 12 years? Or is it possible they're up to something and just trying to get the debtor to make a payment before the SOL runs out?

I've often heard of a corporation purchasing some of its own stock back because they thought that was a good value or price at the time. Can a company theoretically buy ALL of its own stock back? If so, who would own the company, would it be a non-profit organization or a co-op of some sort? Consider if the company basically had little value, such as when assets equals debt.

I work for a company that invests in capital items with long life....30 years, 50 years etc. What are the pros and cons of using debt to finance part of these capital purchases vs. cash (raising rates)? I know one reason is that current customers should not have to pay for equipment that could outlive them. But is there an actual financial "savings" or economics reason to borrow rather than pay cash.

I've been asked to write a business plan on a fee-for-services consulting basis. What's the going rate for this kind of work? I estimate that it will take about a month to complete the work. I have an MBA and over 10 years of experience starting new businesses, but I've never done this work on a fee for services basis. I'm trying to figure out how much to charge for my services.

Company that owes me money for work on a film sold rights to film and went out of business. I understand that under Digital Millenium Act I can recover from company exploiting film now by filing a lien with Copyright Office. Just do not know how to go about doing so.

You are hired as a consultant! Your first assignment is to discuss which competitive advantage you believe the following scenarios fall into: absolute advantage, comparative advantage, or national competitive advantage. Your client also needs you to describe your rationale for your selections on each scenario.

a) A nation has companies with the capacity to make stereo equipment at a much lower price than other national producers because of lower cost labor. The stereo equipment is of the same quality as other international producers.

b) A country mines for a high-demand precious gem only found within that country’s borders and distributes the gems to jewelry dealers all over the world.

c) An overseas country passes laws to protect certain business practices that other countries may find unsuitable and perhaps unethical. The protection of these business practices are not seen as abusive or exploitive within the overseas country and are also consistent with national social standards.
