whats the procedure? i know that you sell stocks that you don't own and then you hope that the stock goes down so you can buy it low. but let's say for instance that i buy 200 shares of google at for example 500 and the stocks go down at let's say 490. now do i sell the stocks that i own? if not whose stocks am i selling and how many? and do i need to buy any stocks at all to be in game of "sell high and then buy low?"
thank you for going through the trouble of reading this.

I've never invested money before and I'm wondering is there anything out there that can help me with it. Is there like a software which is connected to the stock market and is constantly updated that tells you when you should invest and what you should invest in?

Last trade is basically the last recorded price of a single share, right? Let's pretend that last trade is about 50 bucks, and the EPS is $7.00 (considered a good return, isn't it?) If you buy 50 shares of this company you'll be in the hole $2500 dollars. Those 50 shares will be worth $350. Why would anyone do this? Isn't 50 shares considered conservative? Don't serious investors buy WAY more shares than that?Someone please help me with the basics of investing, it just doesn't make sense to me.

I recently got my vehicles paid off and instead of getting back into bad debt I'd like to put the monthly ($900) into something that's going to generate cashflow. I'm thinking paper assets and then real estate when the market makes a rebound in the next 3-5 years. If I go with paper assets, is a discount broker like eTrade or ScottsTrade better than your typical broker who charges an arm and maybe your first born child for the price of managing and commissions? Where should I start?
