What is the best way to earn on $1000 in 6 months to a year. Even two years, I suppose. It does not have to be liquid. I know little about stocks. Is a CD my best option?

I know it has something to do with the stock market and government which were not really an interest of mine in High School. :-( From shows I have seen a company decides to put themselves on the Stock Market and people rich and not rich can buy a share of that company. Lets say one person owns 55% of Mcdonalds and the head CEO dude 40% while you a 9-5 worker 5% percent. :-) From my understanding every company in that era the 30's, when this happen the Microsoft,Pepsi,Taco Bell etc. of the world were all BROKE!

I just can't forsee this happening in todays time and yet my parents have stated about saving money incase the gloom and doom of a Depression happens. They talk of unemployment and $20 loafs of bread or not enough to meet demand. I also can't imagine the rich people of the world in Hollywood having an issue with this, they are rich! If anyone can help me I'd would appreciate it. :-)

I am stuck on a problem. It seems cut and dry, but it's not.

Sold 1000 shares @ $32 a share and broker deducted $125 commision, remitting the balance. So what is loss on sale of investment? I think it should be $4000 but that does not work.

Should we say that the book value of the partnership is undervalued, or the old partners receive bonuses?

What is the easiest way to spot if a partnership transactions involves Bonus (to who? old partners or new) or Goodwill?

Short Term-- Less than and year
Intermediate Term-- 2 to 5 years.

Is that true that i can't just learn the market and start making money. that I would have to invest for 5 years if i want to see safe returns.

If not what is the best way to make money fast, I mean within reasonable time (don't post messages about stupid programs, trying to make me your refferal,, i will report you)

I can buy a condo for 187k cash, and my monthly fee going forward between taxes and maint would be $400. Or I can take that same 187k and put it in the stock market and continue renting my apartment for $925 per month. What should I do?

I am investing for the long term (i.e. 30+ years) and want to know what people think is the best allocation of TSP funds for now and/or for the long haul.

Right now I put %50 in the C fund, %25 in S, and %25 in I. Obviously I'm willing to be aggressive but I'm also not averse to switching things around every now and then if it's going to help me.

For those not familiar with the TSP:

C Fund = Large US companies (S&P 500)
S Fund = Medium and small US companies (Wilshire 1500)
I Fund = International Companies (Europe and Japan mostly)
