I have an elderly family member, who has bought numerous stocks over the years, however, she doesn't have documentation showing her original purchases. DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW TO FIND THE ORIGINAL PURCHASE PRICE INFORMATION?

she's been buying the securities over the past 40 years, and has no idea which brokers she used.

I would call the broker if you really want to know for tax purposes, otherwise it is not really important. Looking at charts will not be very helpful because there is a range of prices where a security trades each day thus it is impossible to determine where she actually purchased the share.

The broker she bought them from should have it in the archives .
If the certificates have dates , you can just look at the long term charts for the prices on the dates she bought them .
