I know people who have been hired at banks without banking experience, so that will not rule you out. Of course, it depends on the job for which you are applying.

Good Luck.

The short answer is yes. I did so in 1971. I had no experience and failed the math test. I got the job as a teller. Later I moved on to management. I had 7 very happy years in banking. Savings Banks and Credit Unions would be your best bet.

I got out of retail banking because there were very few places to grow and increase my income after Branch Manager. I spent the next 30+ years in business to business sales. I made much more money and enjoyed it thoroughly.

Good luck. If you're determined and have a plan... you'll do well.

I have a rule about applying for jobs...

The worst they can do is not hire you. If you do not apply, they will not hire you anyway so what will you lose?

It depends on the jou applied for. if you are trying for the chief loan officer and have a high school education and no experience, then probably not. If you are attempting to become a teller and you have good people skills, then there is a chance.

If you applied, you have a shot. No matter what, each attempt at a job should be a learning experience. Improving your resume, cover letter and interviewing skills will help you in the future.

If you are applying for a teller, you usually need to have about 6 months experience with cash handling such as a cashier. If you have all the necessary qualifications, there's always a possiblity. It will also depend on who else is applying.
