I am in my mid-20s, fresh out of college with a unrelated history degree and is looking to take the NASD exams. I did take a couple of courses in Econ in college and is currently taking some finance classes at a local community college. I was wondering if it is possible for someone like me, with no previous finance knowledge or background to pass the NASD exams. And if it is even worth trying. Thanks.

I have the closing price of a stock for 60 months. How do I use Excel to find the average month-to-month return? For example, if I had the following three month closing prices:

Month 1: $10.00
Month 2: $9.00
Month 3: $11.00

The monthly returns would be:

Month 1: NA
Month 2: -10%
Month 3: +22.2%

The average monthly return would be:

(-10+22.2)/2 = 6.1%

Annualized, it would be:

6.1% X 12 months = 73.2%

How do I do this quickly in Excel with many stocks and 60 months worth of closing price data?

Are options prices being updated manually by market makers, or by certain special software to reflect constantly changing stock prices ?

Can anyone give me any advice? I have always wanted to start my own business...maybe a franchise because it brings the least amount of risk. However, I am open to many things as long as they are investments than bring in residuals on a regular basis for the rest of my life. I am also an employee of an income in the lower middle class and anything I invest in will greatly backtrack me.

I talked to my banker about a day ago, and she said something about high growth companies (the ones that pour the majority of their earnings into R&D to continue their growth), I was wondering if there is a place that has a list of companies that follow this philosophy?

It's telling me I'm going to have to wait three days for the funds to show up in my Scottrade account despite the fact that it was deducted from my checking account yesterday. Does anyone know why it takes 3 days! I am almost thinking about finding another company.

when a person buys silver boullion, should there be a discount from 'call' price if the silver is not in 'mint' condition?

I occasionaly buy smaller amounts of silver bars and at times, the shop sells bars that are not in the greatest condition...

as a general rule, is there a discounted amount for bars such as this? (I realize it's not coins and an ounce of silver is an ounce of silver once it's melted).

Thanks for any real advice

I will obtain an attorney for the purposes of getting a quiet action deed, but I have questions that might ease my mind while I am considering the purchase of tax property.

Once the county has had its tax sale and the state has purchased the property,

1) Who cares for the property? --some of these places look abandoned but are mowed, others are not mowed at all.

2) Who has the keys to the property/house?

3) How can I get an idea of the inside of the property, ie. how many rooms, appliances, condition of floors, walls, etc.? Is that even possible? ((I am looking to buy my first tax property in a certain area as a home. I wouldn't have the time to fix up something, sell it, and look for something else, although I may do that later.))

4) What if someone is living there or cares for the property?

5) Once I have purchased the property, do I have to wait for the quiet action deed before I can look inside, change locks, etc.?

Any real help I can get would be appreciated.

One sells a call option and simply wants to collect the premium each month, provided that the stock doest hit the strike price-
I have not done this but this appears to be basic. Anyway, when I look at stocks to sell call options I notice that most of the strike prices are below the current market value, strike prices that are lower. for example the may 30 call for csco is paying .o5? such a small prem. There is a may 25 for 1.70.. My question BUT there is an excellent chance that this is going to get exercised as the stock is above the 25. Please clarify this. I thought it is better, when selling a call, for the stock to stay at the same price.. Can someone give a few examples of selling a call with the CSCO prices I just gave. THANKS!
