Hi Friends, I am at that age where I should start investing. I am completely new to the field so I would be grateful if some one can please give me help and guidance:

Where and how do I start out?
What first actions do I take?
What do I plan for?

that kind of thing.

Ideally I would like to invest in equities (stocks and shares), fixed incomes (bonds), property etc. I realise that I won't be able to do all this straight away. I realise that a journey of a thousand miles begins with one step.

If someone has any useful websites, books, etc that would truly be perfect.

Thanks friends

I receive tons of mail from supposed experts in finance, and they always show stocks that they supposedly picked and how they went up anywhere from 200 to 1,000%. Then you read the disclaimer and it shows how much they were paid to push this stock. I am 71 and have a little money that I would like to double and tried one already who gave TNEN.OB. Bought it at $2.46 and it fell already to $1.79 a share. If anyone has had luck with stock or a good outfit please let me know. Thanks

It has a decent gross rental return (6%) but has been on the market for 6 months and has not risen in value over the last 5 yrs (as stated by the real estate agent). It is close to the town centre of a growing town, and has a very steep driveway. It is 10 years old. I intend to get a soil inspection to ensure the ground is ok, as the house is on a high. Should I make an offer, say 5% less than the asking price? Why wouldnt the property increase in value when all other properties in the area have?

But They sent me a 1099 form which says Unrealized profit or (loss) on open contracts-12/31/06 is ZERO. Does this mean I did not make money from stock? how to report this on fax return? All my money are still in my account in TDameritrade,

Diversification sounds good but isn't it really a bad thing? It is like a huge mutual fund.... It helps you against downfalls wouldn't it go against you when you strike good in one area? I think it would be better to focus on one area.... Dollar cost average it. Why is diversification good? is it only good for a non-risky investor?
