Today if you are under the age of 30 you may never see social security and yet you will pay 7-8% of all your earnings into this federal payroll TAX. Don't we have a right to invest this money ourselves. We can do it if we are given the chance!

Hello I am in a bit of a quandary about how to go about investing in my situation. I am eligible to participate in a 457 deferred comp plan at work through ICMA. Most of the expense ratios for the ICMA funds range from .48 to 1.25% I also was considering investing directly from my checking account into some of Vanguards funds. They actually have funds with zero expense ratios, no loads, or 12b-1 fees.

I do understand about the benefits of investing before taxes into a deferred comp 457 plan. What my question is at what expense ratio/fees do the tax deferred benefits of the 457 plan begin to lose their value to a lower expensed mutual fund like Vanguard (or any other I'm not pushing Vanguard here)? FYI I'm 32 years of age and am maxing out my Roth to invest on my own. I would be into the mutual fund to buy and hold for the long term.

was it sino gold (ASX:SGX; OTCPK:SIOGF)?if it is i want to invest in their stock. china hasn't let anybody mine gold there in over 50 years and china could potentially become one of the world's largest gold producers from huge mines that are currently not producing anything. there's an estimated 22 thousand tons of gold worth about 445 billion USD under Chinese soil. the stock price is cheap so i want to get in to make a profit.

Is a money market fund a good place to save it until we are ready to buy. If not what would you suggest, and if so, what is a good account to go with?

I'm only asking because I figure there might be a market there. I know they don't eat pork, so not much potential there. But I figure if they like pink meat, the possum is the future. Shoot, possums breed like bunnies and don't move too fast. I'm thinking that since there are so many Muslims around, I could start a pretty good sized ranch without too much cost or work and have a good customer base.

I have a MBA (or I'm about to anyway), and have taken numerous finance courses. All these Math models that are used for finance are a total crock. Yeah, you can diversify your stocks, but it's still gambling. PE Ratios don't mean jack. It's all random and risky. IT seems the only way to win is to do insider trading. So why do people bother? Why won't our companies and the Government allow us to invest our retirements into our houses? That's a lot less risky than some poorly run mutual funds that are charging me a butt load of money on hidden fees for their services.
