My intention is to put 100,000 dollars down on the new house which cost 155,000. My payment with taxes is about 700.00 a month. I am fifty yrs old retired, after taxes i get about 2800.00 a month. I was thinking, instead of buying a house rent a apartment for about 700.00 a month. Take the 100,000 dollars and invest it in a aggressive, high growth mutual fund and max out my ira. looking at some funds that been averaging about 13% the last thirty yrs. That would give me about 1,000,000 dollars by age 66. What do you think?

I would like to know if there are any websites or decent books out there with good information on the creation of a hedge fund? Also, is there money to be made if you run a mutual fund? Like a John Montgamery at Bridgeway or Bill Miller at Legg Mason. If so, how is it calculated? Thanks in advance.

I have formulated and automated a trading model (using daily data or higher frequncy data). In backdata tests on some ETFs (daily data), the system generated annual profits ranging from 68% to 213% (no transaction costs or margin taken into account). I trade stocks but not frequent. I was wondering if there is any ETF trader who trades on daily basis and comes up with the better performances.

What's the best way to pull yesterday's closing prices and/or current stock prices into Excel? I want to do this for *every* traded stock in S&P500 *every* morning, rather than for just a subset.

I am legally residing in the US, but I don't have a resident alien status (ie dont have a green card). I tried to open a Vanguard mutual fund account, but they said they cannot do it online because of my citizenship status. I was told to fill out a paper form and mail it to Vanguard along with IRS for W-8. What is this form and why do I need to fill it?
Also, do you have any tips for foregners who want to open brockerage accounts in the US? I am under impression that it is almost impossible or requires a lot of complicated paperwork.

I am looking into ways to save money that will earn a lot of interest. I am currently in a situation to save a couple thousand dollars a month for the purchase of a home, but I would like to find an account with a high interest yield. If anyone is knowledgable about stocks, bonds, mutual funds, CDS...anything, please let me know what you suggest!!
