I'm starting a 401k plan through my job but I know nothing about such things. I've got 45 years ahead of me before I retire so I can take some risks. How do I know where to put my money?

I have been looking at investing in some foreign currencies (1 in particular), but would like to find out as much as I can before working out whether this would be a good investment or not. Where is the best place to find this sort of information?

I know, it means companies can borrow money more cheaply. But the reason the Fed cites for not raising interest rates is that they predict economic slowdown! Wouldn't that be even worse news for stocks? Does Wall Street not believe the economic predictions?

I have been advised to buy shares in precious metals and natural resources as opposed to putting my savings into a high interest bank account. I was just wondering if anyone else had this advice and what they thought of it. is it a good idea and why?
