Every year at the hotel where I work, they try to raise the rates.

Fair competition inhibits this impulse.

Does anyone doubt that there is collusion among the oil companies, and that they are just shrewd enough to wait for unsettling global events to raise the price of gas?

I have seen the WAL-MART: The High Cost of Low Price Documentary about 10 times. It is unbelieveable to me. I haven't shopped there in about 5 years because of another documentary I saw in Grad school regarding Wal*Mart taking over small towns.

I was just wondering if other people stopped shopping there due to these films or doesn't it make difference to you.

How does any one think we are going to reduce the national debt with republican spending at historical all time high.
Gas prices are leading us into a recession, and the republican congress has doubled the size of government spending while giving millions dollar in tax breaks to the richest companies and individuals in the country.
Does any one really think this can be good for the middle class.

I was just watching something on the oil pipeline shut down in Alaska. The oil companies seem to be at fault for not properly maintaining the pipes and are now forced to spend millions on fixing them with no clue how long it will take. This is a good handy excuse to drive up the price of gas thus turther increasing the billions in profits they see. So, they can afford to give their top execs things like $400 million severance packages, and post the highest gains of any companies on the stock exchanges, and now even higher. Meanwhile us, the little guy at the pumps are paying through the nose for gas and thus having to shift our budgets off other critical things. In your opinion, Do you think the oil companies should absorb the loss their negligence is going to cost instead of seeing it as an opportunity to further increase their already massive bottom line profits?
