Specifically, I have a crateful of oil paintings and piles of pencil sketches and drawings. I keep the crate open and the paintings are exposed to some sunlight every day. The illustrations are filed away into shelves in shadow but as the years pass I worry about the aging of both the paper and the various leads.

I'm not looking for answers like it's all subjective. I'm just looking for dollar amounts. I want to find out what most people would pay for a painting of that size since that's the canvas size I've been working with a lot recently.

Someone asked a few days ago about painting over another painting. So I want to take the question one step farther with this one?

Most serious artists have painted over their own work or others at one time or another. I personally like to drop by my local Goodwill or Salvation Army thrift shop every now and then and see what I can find there. Last Sunday I bought two nice quality canvases (a 48"x48" and a “30"x40") that I intend to paint over. Why? Because these costs me $17.50. New, they would have cost me $150.00. I don’t feel guilty about painting over either because the smaller one is crap and the larger one looks like one of those Wal-Mart mass produced wall furnishings.

But what is your personal criterion for painting over someone else’s work? Would you paint over only crap? Or perhaps even something marginally well-done?

Would you paint over one of your own older works because you wanted to paint and didn't have any other canvas?

There is a drawing I saw long time ago in a book. I think it depicts madness, it’s a black and white drawing that shows a man sitting broken at a table and owls behind him (they seem to attack him).

Does anyone please know this drawing? Can you give me an internet hyperlink to it? I’ve tried numerous searches but with no luck… thanks!

I estimate the mural to be in a size of 3feet by 5 feet. I generally get about $40 per hour for my paintings, (see www.michiganwildlifeartist.com), but that may scare off the potential client. How do I estimate a reasonable price without cheating the customer or myself.

I can't remember the name of the artist and the title may be more like 'In memory of greedy little girls' and is in 'candy-stick' colours.

Im trying to figure out what materials are used in creating mini canvasses for painting. Mainly interested in finding out what is used to coat the canvas and what kind of paint is used ideally. Any information on this subject will be appreciated.

It is not the 'traditional' kind of tempera, but the kind usually sold as 'poster paint' or something... it is called tempera, and a lot of places and art catalogs sell it.They usually have a line of really basic colors, like red, blue, yellow, black, blue, no real 'color' names like cadmium red or ultramarine blue, you know? I bought some, but am unsure how to go about using it...I know this sounds weird. Is it like acrylic, or watercolor or what? Has anyone had any experience with it in a real art type setting? (Not making posters or letting the kids paint with it? ) LOL!!! Does it make brushes hard if left in them? Not that I would do that I am just wondering... Lightfastness? What kinds of paper or surface should I use? Anything on this would be appreciated. I have a million questions about this but I can't think of them all LOL!!! ANything you know, please let me know. Thanks!!! SD :)

I'm not an expert in the Bible, but as far as I can tell, nowhere does it say what Jesus looked like. However, most artists who paint Jesus's portrait show him with long hair and a beard and moustache. Is it artistic license, or do they know something we don't? Just wondering. Thanx.
