They may help, but to be honest your best bet would be to go to a class in your area. You can usually find evening classes on oil painting - have a look on google or ask at your local library, they should be able to let you know if there's any classes in your area :)

this isnt a great source, but micheal's arts and crafts website
has some step by step guides in the fine arts section
