In science books discussing black & white, they say black is a combination of all color, & from pure white light refracted in a prizm, is split into all visible colors. I'll accept more answers

Grey is a shade of black, black and white are opposites. But grey is in the middle of the color wheel and wouldn't really have a true opposite which means that it should be a good compliment to any color.

I agree with Suequek. Black and White, in their truest sense, are not colors at all, so grey couldn't be a color.

However, that asside, it really depends on what part of the grey you're talking about. Grey is the least possible saturation of color (no saturation) so the opposite of that would be the most saturation (of any color). Mid-tone grey is (in theory) halfway between the lightest and darkest values, so valuewise, it would be it's own opposite. Colorwise, grey is not a color, so I suppose it's opposite color would be some infinite form of color (a rainbow perhaps?)

So... the opposite of grey would be a mid-value, full saturation rainbow.

Funny question. Sine neither white nor black are on the color chart, neither is gray, so there is no opposite. Gray, being part of the value scales of black and white, can be either a tint of black or a shade of white until the mixture is 50-50, then it is middle gray. But, since tint is the addition of white and shade is the addition of black to a color, even using those terms is inappropraite. We say gray can be warm or cool depending on what color is part of the mix but that violates the definition of gray being a mix of white and black. So, the short of the answer is, the opposite of gray is gray.

I believe, in a sense, that the opposite of grey is grey. Since black is the commonly known opposite of white, then grey is the opposite of grey (well, I guess it depends on the shade of grey of which you speak.) If it's a light grey, then a darker grey is the logical opposite.

I use Ultramarine Blue, Lemon Yellow and Alizarin Crimson with White to make Grey. So . . . if I mix Cerulean Blue, Cadmium Yellow and Cadmium Red and add white, I get Tan! Of couse I also get Tan if I sit out in the sun. Never mind.

grey is the opposite of grey. If black and white is grey, then the opposites(white and black) are grey

Grey is not a color, it's a shade, and the opposite of a shaded area would be a non shaded area - white - but thats not a color either, it is the absence of color.
