I have never painted or seriously drawn a picture before. I am a creative person though, and love to write and view art. I especially love surreal and abstract watercolor paintings. I don't think I have any real artistic talent in the way of drawing faces, flowers, etc. Basically I like surreal and abstract paintings, and especially like the way watercolors come across. I am looking to start a hobby, and think I would enjoy mixing colors and creating unique images.

I have been told by several people, including my husband, that watercolors is one of the most difficult and frustrating mediums for a beginner to start out with. He recommends colored pencils or chalk. I don't want to do drawings. I want to blend colours and create surreal type images.

Are there any recommendations for the medium I should begin with? And also, cost ? I can't really afford to buy top notch supplies. Since it's a hobby, I want to be pratical.

Lastly, Is watercolor a bad idea for a novice?

Steven Wynn is suing the London Insurance Agency, Lloyds on account that they allegedly failed to act properly on his demands to pay him $54 million dollars in lost value for the famous Picasso the Dream oil painting.
I think that Wynn should donate any money he gets from this law suit and give it to some art school or some noble cause, after all he did damage a true work of art. What do you think?

I have a signed print of "Just what is it that makes today's homes so different?", limited edition of 5000, and was wondering what it would sell for. It's the 1993 one, not his first! Thanks.

I can't find how much my painting is worth. I have looked at every website that has his name in it but still can't find what I'm needing. This is a portrait of a little boy or girl who falls asleep on a chair with a bowl of milk in her lap and a cat is drinking out of it. It was painted in 1866. Please give me any info you can regarding how much this is worth. Thanks!!

I want to be able to spray it from a bottle onto the canvas. Will this cause a problem with drying time or will it not work at all causing the oil base paint to not dry correctly?
Bottom line is I want to thin-out the thick oil base paints so I can use them without using a brush.
Thanks for any answers.

I am looking for the best way to show my works online and sell them.

I am thinking of a worldwide art gallery, where one could display his/her works, with contact info, possibly also prices.

What would be the largest gallery, if there is such a thing?

I recently went to art show. One of exhibit had huge panoramic canvas pictures of landscape photos (taken with a digital camera). Up close the pictures looked like oil paintings, but they were actually digital photos printed on this canvas as art. These pictures were nice & huge. There were panoramic style and were about 30" x 48" (2.5 ft x 4 ft). The canvas was attached to a wooden stretcher frame for direct hanging on a wall w/o need for a frame. I was wondering if anyone knew any more on this subject. Is there a special name for this process of digital photography onto canvas art? What kind of printer is used? Where do you get the pictures developed? What else is needed for this process? Starting costs? Where can I go for additional information on this subject?
