We found an old sketching by artist John Sloan to a relative, who was sculptor from Bucks County PA, and a classmate of Sloan. The piece has an inscription reading "New Years greetings, 1915 from Dolly and John Sloan". The dimensions are 3.5 by 2 inches. The piece can be viewed at

Any guesses as to its value? Thanks.

I'm interested to be a children's book illustrator but I'm not sure where to apply for it. Currently I'm studying a non-related course which is Landscape Architecture, although both are sitll under design. I'm torn in between these two fields as both are interesting, although I think Landscape Architecture is harder and it's just not about art/design. As for the other field, I'm not sure where to start because I've never heard of such industry in where I stay (Singapore) and secondly, I dont have the related field course. Currently I do mostly ink drawings and simple photoshop artwork which I think are not good enough.

My teacher asked me for an original piece which I can draw or represent...so I drew from a photograph using an ink technique and have added some changes...
is that acceptable?
I do not wish to sell my work, this is for evaluation

I was looking at a tutorial on how to paint in photoshop, but concerning the picture they started out with I'd like to know if they used a tablet for the base drawing or started out with a pencil sketch and then did something with the tablet to make it look like it does in the black and white stage.

Usually when I draw, I start out with light strokes. However, as I progress through the drawing, my strokes get harder, and I end up drawing harder than I intended to, which makes it difficult to erase sometimes.

Does anyone know how to solve this little problem?

I'm curious how I can take a low-res image with jagged, digital lines and using Photoshop make the edge lines smooth, sharp and without the zig-zag effect. I've taken a screenshot from Google sketchup, and what I'd like to do is use screenshots from this program, bring these into Photoshop, increase the resolution, change this to pure black and white, and somehow sharpen the zig-zag line quality. Here's the original image.

Any suggestions on how to use Photoshop to make the lines sharp and without zig-zag quality?

I've been experimenting and I have some ideas, but I'd like to hear any other suggestions people might have.

Thanks!

I have looked into colored pencils and markers, which are both great for staying in the lines, but they don't lay down large swaths of smooth color. Pastels are better, but can be very difficult to keep within the lines.

I have been leaning towards some sort of paint. Paints are dependent on brushes, so large areas and fine detail can both be taken care of. But, what types of paints?

Thank you in advance!

What are the pros and cons (quality, quality of work, expense, etc. ) of having a Koh-I-Noor Rapidograph Technical Pen Set?

I know they are more expensive than disposable pens (like Microns). They were discovered at my work when we were cleaning. I am currently trying to figure out how to use them. Some of my co-workers don't know how to use them and just want to chuck them in liu of the Micron disposable pens.

Ultimately, I need to know if it is more feasible to use disposable pens or these refillable technical pens. We will be using them for fine pen and ink techniques.

Also, if you have any examples of work done with these kind of pens, I would appreciate it if you could show me.
