Visual Arts - October 2006

I've been studying art history & I've noticed in many paintings, etc. the Virgin & Jesus look pretty Italian! Is this because the artists were Italian, or the patrons were?

I've always wondered, so let me know! thx.

like its a picture and you can see an image but if you look at it for a couple seconds you and see another image

I would like to start selling my art (paintings) but I would like to be making a name for myself as well so I dont want to just offload them at ebay or something of the sort...

I am looking for a freelance artist for my church to create a statue of St. Michael. Can use various materials, such as clay, stone, wood etc. And we need it to be unique (not a copycat) plus more in the appearance of a mighty warrior (not mistaken as a cute fairyish angel) Church funds are limited. But it shall be viewed by many people within the United States and Canada since we are in the US yet only 7 miles from the boarder so we have a bi-national congregation.

i'm an amateur photographer and there is a lot i've to learn in this field. Photography books are a bit expensive; so please suggest a couple of good sites for photography tutorials(FREE) or good e-books. these should be included: aperture and shutter control, light and flash control, potraiture, sports and travel photography, white balance, ISO, exposure compensation, etc....
