in the ever changing art world how do you imagine portraits to be in the next 50 years

well, a contemporary british artist, Mark Quinn, recently produced a portrait (shown at the national prortrait gallery in london) of the guy who discovered DNA - the portrait was a sample of this guys own
actual DNA. the argument was that although this wasn't a representation of his 'physical appearance' it was actually the most complete portrait of him possible, in fact, it actually was him.
So i guess, to answer youre question, like the above piece has already suggested, there will possibly be a move away from an accurate physical likeness towards a more complete 'picture' of the person, whatever form that may take

There will be that many in the future when ID cards come in they'll be as common as bank notes. Nobody hardly notices the portraits on them unless someone asks who's on the back of a £10 note.

As always.
A bad representation of the person.
If you can afford a portrait, you want to look more beautiful or noble than you really are.
Everyone seems to Photoshop their pictures these days.

Portraits will always be wanted. Media may change ...paint, charcoal, film, digital, holograms...but the aspect of capturing a person's likeness ain't going away

I believ they will be a rarity, not as personal and thy will have the stark picture images, as opposed to the romantic themes of the past.
