I know it's generalizing, but that is what someone told me and I've not heard this before - is it somewhat true?

no this is pretty much a stereotype myth - often we embelish over a histroical period the lives of artists to make them seem larger than life to go with their beautiful canvases but most creative people want the same things we all do - love, stability, security and a family - both marriage and divorce rates in artists are no different to those of thre general population
however the creative mind loves to look at things from all angles - so living with one can be hard work!!!

It's actually a choice thing. Some people believe that artist are supposed to be roamers, not settle down. Personally I think that it's a hunk of junk. I'm a writer and I wanna settle down at some point (I'm 14 so you know I gots a while). It's all what you believe in.

just because a person has a creative mind does not mean that they do not want the same things that other people want. Just like others, some artists don't want to be tied down, some want a family, and some like myself are very happy with a family.

Creativity comes from what makes you happy and what makes you sad in life. Don't listen to people when they are spouting off stereo types about others.

Almost all the artists I know are married, and have been a long time. Some of the more notorious, or famous, have been sensationalized in movies and the media but for the most part, I think you will find, we are as straightforward, home-loving, faithful and dedicated as any other nuerotic, malcontent.

I am the most MARRIED person on the planet- to a guy who sees ME and gets that my art is part of my heart, body and soul. He even helps me out---try 20 years married,30 yearsas a proff. artist- I must admit I met him on the So Cal Freeway (he had an awesome butt on his racebike!)

I'm married, half of my fellow art students are at least involved, if not engaged or married, and most of the practicing artists I've met are married.
