Could you help me understand what the concept of money is -- like where it actually "comes from", where does it get its value, and how does it get its power to allow us to acquire goods and services? Before there used to be gold backing the dollar, but now that there isn't, I don't understand where it's intrinsic value comes from. This is a philosophical question, not a dictionary definition. Thanks.

Question Details: Why do we say 'Would you like a drink ____?' (mum, dad, aunty, grandma, grandpa)
....yet we use actual names when talking to or about nephews, neices, sisters, brothers or grandchildren?

If your a parent how would you react if your child called you by your first name?

We are here today because of our parents, they brought us into this world. They removed the cotton wool from our eyes, fed us, clothed us, gave us shelter, warmth, love and support. By calling them 'mum', 'dad', 'mother' or 'father' we are acknowledging their role, a signal of respect. I have seen a lot of children calling their parents by their first name..But I disagree.

But I digress..

Where do you stand on this debate?

Thank You :-)
Have a wonderful day!

This is the question that will never be satisfatorily answered, but still, a very important concept of 'Life' that the Constitution protects.

I ask this question because I asked one earlier about Andrea Yates and why people pity her. Well almost every answer I got said "Because she was mentally ill". Well I would like to know why you people think it is alright for a mentally ill person to get away with murder just because they are mentally ill. I am sorry, but I have been in the Mental Institution and I can tell ya I would never even think of drowning my children in a bath tub. No where in the laws of man does it say that if you are mentally ill you have the right to kill someone. If you think that Andrea Yates should be put in a hospital just to get out in 6 months then you are just as guilty as she is for the murder of those 5 kids.

All in all I'm
Loving every rise and fall
The sun will make and I will take
Breath to be sure of this

All will be forgiven when
Surrender rises high and I
Gave what I came to give

surely he was acting ridculously and rather not selflessly throughout his life..
as the single person who can rightly claim to be the father of western philosphy, and who has had an influence on countless people, thought processes, ideas, and even other disciplines (theology, politics, and more recently psychology, sociology and so forth..), and who reinforced the general assumed idea that selflessness is the most important virtue, SURELY it was his obligation to the world to publish his thoughts.

i mean look at the influence of the republic, aristotles ethics etc. plato was the student of socrates, and aristotle of plato..

can we even begin to imagine the impact that the writings of 'the wisest man in the world' might have had? but my question really is was socrates selfish? why/why not? why didnt he publish his ideas?

Asbestos "not in the Air"?
Did they or did they not carry out these so-called tests at
lightening or breakneck speed?
Sure they did, surely its there today for everyone to see?
I think someone may be protecting their job;and if its the
writer journalist's idea of a good so-called story,then perhaps
someone ought to suggest that it would be better to,
1. Help the current victims
2. Find the cause and then dont write about it but fix it to
try to ensure in doesnt happen again;in New York or elsewhere.

What do you say

2007-07-19 03:50:04 · 17 answers · asked by The More I learn The More I'm Uneducated 5

I'll preface this by saying, I am regretably not gay. I find the thought of sex with another male to be really objectionable.

However, humans have a problem.

Population explosion.

It ain't my problem to deal with, because I'll be dead before you folk are living elbow to elbow, back to back and belly to belly.

But I think homosexuality, if it can be practiced exclusively and pervasively by mankind for a few generations, might just be the way out.

Imagine it. 100 years of heterosexuality being an aberrant behavior would solve almost every problem mankind faces.

Something to aspire to, ain't it?

For i wanted to correct my minor mistake,in my recent

question concerning Impressions and Gut Feelings;

(that a quoted author was there misspelled-it should have

been..... Robi LuDwig !!!!!!!!!!!!!(my apologies to her too).

In the catagory, General Television, a certain dr robi Luwig
has asked a similar question.
As its her first question; And as she has already over 1000
replies;it deserves some attention(all you brilliant top
contributors listen-up!).
So i devoted some of my unequally important time on resolving this question(or perhaps conundrum).
Are Initial Impressions more-or-less the same as Gut Feelings?

Everybody out there has to have inquired at least once "Where did all this come from?" If you believe in evolution, explain where the "nothingness" that exploded and became somethingness came from. Futhermore, how can everything in the world live so harmoniously with everything else and be considered an accident?
