I am not a creationist but I do believe in a god/creator/source. I cannot get past the point of how enormous and wondrous the universe is and that it had to come from somewhere. Do atheists believe it is just as easy to say it came from no where/always existed than it is to say if had a creator?

What is the predominate belief of atheists when is come to the universe's origin?

Additional Details: This is beyond the "big bang". You could just as well say where did the big bang come from...

Missed my lecture for school and I am in a bind here. If anyone is willing to answer this question, that'd be great.

Times - Ancient China to 500 B.C.E.

I haven't had much luck finding an answer. My textbook is lame, internet is even worse. Only things I can find are about Confucianism and Daoism, but no clear answer.

For Example- " like children playing by the ocean who build sand-towers with constancy and then destroy them with laughter. but while you build your sand-towers the ocean brings more sand to the shore, and when you destroy them the ocean laughs with you. verily the ocean laughs always with the innocent. but whatof those to whom life is not an ocean, and man-made laws are not sand-towers, but to whom life is a rock and the law a chisel with which they would carve it in their own likeness? what of teh cripple who hates dancers? what of the ox who loves his yoke and deems the elk and deer of the forest stray and vagrant things?

any input would be greatly appreciated
Patrick

As much as I try to bring this part of the road into reality, when I drive down this particular road there is a strange gap in time when the journey vanishes in some sort of time laps of existence. Have you ever experienced this? It's always the same stretch of road and it always vanishes.

this is a 'magic' button - instantly 3 out of 4 people would disappear (regardless of class, age, race, location, etc - could be your friends and family - across the board ) there would be no corpses, but for all intents and purposes the 3/4 would be dead.

The population reduction would however ensure the survival of the planet, eliminate war, poverty and hunger, end man's erosion and destruction of the environment and reduce our overall ecological footprint.

would you do it?

What does Nietzsche really mean by it.I think when he says, "When you gaze long into the abyss, the abyss also gazes into you.",he means when you dwell on nihilism/meaninglessness,it consumes you.Do I have it right? Is there more to the quote?
