Wonderful question... my Star!!
At that moment when one is not thinking about it, one is just oneself and not a label such as the Believer or the Atheist. Because nobody is perfect either way, no one can either be a perfect Christian or a perfect Atheist... perhaps that is why we get a label for ourselves and try to stick by it and keep reminding ourselves of our adopted label every other moment.

This being philosophy:
Mu - unask the question. You're asking if your skin is blue in total darkness, and that depends on minutiae like 'what does "being" mean'.
When you are not actively involved with - either mentally or physically - operations pertaining to them, the three choices you give - Christian, atheist or neither - are not sufficient. You need a 'mu' answer too. Saying 'neither' doesn't cut it, because it leaves open the possibility that other affiliations may be possible: I could be a Two Seed In The Spirit Predestinarian Baptist, a Dawkinist, A Buddhist, a God, a dog, a flower-seller, a Nazi, an Innuit, an infant - the list is literally endless.
Your question includes the Dicto simpliciter, Bifurcation and Interrogation fallacies.
I have never been a Christian.
I have no other religious affiliations.
I am frequently an active atheist - in word, thought and deed.

Even when you're not thinking about it, you are whatever you are. Christian or atheist. I don't stop being a Christian, even when God isn't at the top of my mind at that moment. I don't stop being a woman even when I'm not thinking about it. I don't stop being a singer when I'm not singing or an artist when I'm not painting....

It takes faith to be a christian or an atheist,to be an atheist you have to believe that God doesn't exist, and no one can
prove that.

What one is, is a state of being.
We are a triumvirate of what we think we are, what we say we are, and what we do that represents what we believe we are.
In a geniune state of non-thinking, the archetypal Zen 'empty bowl', one is...............
But you said "not thinking about it.......", I guess referring to the christian/atheist thing, which implies that one could be thinking of anything else........
In which case one could be ...........anything else.
Or anything you like...... ;-)
