Does god expect one to arrive at faith through reason or is that idea contradictory to the concept of faith? If god requires you to look beyond reason, than is reason not the devil's most useful tool? And why does god give the human free will; that is, the ability to freely reason so as to come upon a decision and then ask them to abandon reason?

My friends and have been talking about this for the last couple of months. I am ready to be 30 this year and a couple of my friends are getting close to it too.
Getting to be 30 suddenly looks to be a turning point in my views and thoughts about things in life now. Is this normal? Does everybody goes through this? Does it get better or worse as the years go by?

I don't know if the fact that starting to look back in time and say "Have I done something worthwhile?" has something to do with it. I tell my friends that all of sudden I get afraid of the future. Though I feel more confident and secure about things, I feel in uncertanty about the mistakes and the benefficial decitions I have made.

Now life is really full of expectations and experiences but can this process of looking at your life and starting to analize myself be part of it?

My friends tell me not to worry about anything but I think they are getting the same thoughts... what do you guys think? Does it vary with people?

Christianity is just a compilation of past religions. The past religions explain so much more, so much better. How doesn't anybody see that? How is it nobody cares about the knowledge we can gain from past civilizations? How does anybody accept a God/Creator that is so selfish to only want worship and control over it's creations? How does anybody accept a religion without doing research on where it came from and the holes, oxymorons, and hypocritical statements that exist within it. Only answer if you've done research, and don't just accept what your parents/clergymen tell you.

You reached two doors. The door that leads to heaven is guarded by an angel that always tells the truth. The other door leads to hell guarded by a devil that always tells lies. If you can only ask one question to only one of them, what would your question be?

The catch here is that you cannot ask anyone of them about the other person.

i've never kicked a guy there. ever. but i've come to learn my daughter has. we had a talk about how serious that could be, but sadly enough - i walked away a little jelous. i wish i had the nerve to stand up for myself the way she did, or be a take no bullshit kind of ***** for once. i got to thinking about how when i go out with my freinds, certain guys feel free to be crude and act like they're doing me a huge a favor (thinking because i'm a bit chunky i ought to be desperate and thankful for their crass propositions). if it did it NOBODY would blame me. i so could do it. so i feel kind of pathetic for entertaining the thought, and at the same time oh so tempted.

Once they reach a certain age they are considered obsolete and a drag on their society.

Do you think that this is a good idea? Should we implement it in Modern America? I Think of the benefits; no need to set aside social security. No need to have to listen to old people explaining that young people haven't got it together. No need to worry about the old taking up niches in various markets that young people alone should be competing for. There'd be an abundance of new real estate, apartments available.

Can you think of any reasons that this is not a good idea?

This is an ethics question; I value any and all answers.
