i think such choices are made in the moment and any prediction i would make for how i would face them would probably be wrong. when someone pushes a child out of the way of a speeding truck and gets hit themselves... did they think they might be able to survive? or were they aware of their sacrifice before it was made?
i can only know my own mind so well.

It depends on what kind of choice this is. If somebody was asking me this question, and I had to choose, then I seriously would not know. Of course, it would be noble for me to say I would save them but if you think about it, how much are we different? We both would have led a life, with family, friends, hopes, emotions, and aspirations. I mean, how different are human beings from each other at their very core?
However, if it was an actual situation where I had seconds to decide, like in front of a speeding car or something, of course i would try to save my friend. It probably wouldn't even occur to me that I would also die in an attempt to save my friend. How could anyone just stand there if that happened? Everyone would do something.
Just my opinion.

If my friend were in trouble I probably try to rescue them. Although it has been said if a person is drawning and you try to go after them in a lake or river and there's a bad current. Most of the time the people who try to go rescue the person, end up drawning themselves, and only few of them did the original person drawning was saved. But more then likely, no matter what someone will still go and try to rescue the person.

Well, if I chose my life over hers, I would spend the rest of my life feeling guilty and missing her, and she would do the same. I guess we'd have to flip a coin.
I''d like to say I'd do the noble thing and choose her life over mine, but honestly? I don't know. We both have families, we both have obligations and only one of us is in the position to shoulder both person's families.
So that person gets to live.

In my case my best friend would lose. Not being selfish. I am thinking in terms of which loss would have the greater impact. I have dependants, he does not.
