I read a this paragraph just a little bit ago and I'd like to know more on the subject. The military men who eventually rose to power, did they squabble for the position, get violent about it, or did they quietly get elected or step up into power? This topic really interested me and I would like to know how it worked. Also, in that time, was there such thing as Communism? Or a form of it? What others did they have besides the Roman democracy or Monarchy?

Roman senate existed, Roman emperor existed. Technically he was elected. Technically. The emperors worked VERY hard to keep it in the family or at least train people who were loyal to them. It never really worked. In the end it was just a bunch of military men rising up and grabbing power.

Politicians met at the constitutional convention in 1787 in Philadelphia to create the constitution, right? Was there a name for this group of politicians? Was it the second continental congress? When did the constitution actually go into effect? I'm reading it was ratified in 1789, but Delaware ratified it in 1787?

Hey. This is a toughie but I know some history buff could come through....

Can you please list some (2-5 should do) instances where a growing empire/nation built around a group of people and it led to something bad?

The reason I'm asking this is I have a speech/paper for my US History class debating that the Indian Removal was necessary and President Jackson had to initiate that in order for our country to flourish. I'd like some past instances to refer to (before 1834) where this action was not carried out.

I really want to do the research on my own so a simple 2-5 empire list with a name and a date (if possible), just to help get me started

Please no one research this, I don't want to inconvenience anyone.

One more: this isn't cheating if I just want somewhere to start?

Thanks!!

I LOVE history - especially of colonial America. I was just reading The Declaration of Independence and noticed that so many words are capitalized. Why is this? Is it just that it was proper grammer in those days?
