The first century AD was marked by growing friction between Rome and the Parthian Empire to the east (basically modern-day Iran). Nero was able using the threat of force and diplomacy to reach a peaceful settlement with the Parthians that lasted more than a century.

We think of Nero as a mad, bad emperor mainly because of the writings of Tacitus, but the contemporary common people liked him.

Not much of note as far as history is concerned, apart from one little gem, which lives with us today.

He introduced the rule that someone who is a witness to a will cannot benefit from the will. That remains in our law to this day.

He did some things in his lifetime, none of which lived past him. Read more detail here:

he spent a great deal of money on entertaining roman citizens (not the same connotation as the contemporary usage), to which many were happy to have at his expense.

well he did persecute chrisitans and blamed that big fire on them... but mostly hes known for killing his mom, being crazy, and killing himself
