If just, why did we pull out?

If unjust, why is there a monument to those who were forced to fight it?

Is it an honorable thing to obey a command that is dead wrong?

How might subsequent US history have been different if, during the Civil War and Reconstruction, the plantations of the South had been divided, and ex-slaves had been given plots of land and the means to farm them?

I studied an African History course in The University last semester and learned that today's sufferings in Africa is due to the invasion of the Europeans who colonized Africa, ruled over them for so many years and exploited all their resources which has today rendered them incapable and subjected them to begging. Countries that were rich in resources included Ghana which was rich in gold, Cote d'Ivoire which was rich in Ivory of the bull and Nigeria which was rich in oil. Also was the Congo Basin rich in minerals. Was this the main reason why they invaded Africa or it was because of a mere discovery. I know for sure that Africans are blaming them today for making them poor and underdeveloped because they took everything they have away, but would not help them when they turn to them for help.

The amount of carnage it cost must have been estimated beforehand. What was so important to pay such a price? I understand the importance of emancipation, but I've been told the real reasons behind the war had little to do with slavery and more to do with economics. And, that the slavery issue was thrown in to enlist a little help for the North from the slaves.

I just watched a couple of WWII films recently and now I want to watch and learn even more. Any suggestions on good WWII movies to watch? They can be real documentaries or even Hollywood films (I would prefer that they not be rated R). Does anybody have a favorite war movie?

Really now, what I'm asking for, are a person or persons, or events of any kind whose experience of a tragedy of any kind, which so profoundly saddend you, that you were almost paralyzed with sorrow.

It can be something that happened to you personally, to some one you know or know of, an actual historical event, an action or scene from a play or film, involve one individual or thousands.

The important thing is, that it really effected you to such an extent, that you can honestly say it was by far, the most profoundly saddest experience of you life.

Please, proceed.

When did the middle east first start understanding and reacting to the troumendous oil reserves under the region and creating millionaires than billionaires from this accident of nature and so on? Was it the invention of the automobile that was the main driver of the world's initial thirst for oil? Which would mean, i guess the middle east and oil issues started to come to the world stage in the early 20th century? Or was oil in high demand before that?--eg, in the industrial revolution? Were the reserves there some of the first exploited? Or was there a significant time period where other reserves were the main ones and geologists had not yet discovered the oil there?
