I am an amateur vexilogist, a student of flags, their design, symbolism, history, use and the rest.. I now live in Asia after travelling for a little while in many countries and I have noticed that the British Union Jack or Union Flag is often worn as a fashion statement on anything from motorbike crash helmets to T-shirts, on jeans, underpants, and shoes. It appears far more often than other flags or national symbols.

Many nations of course would be mortified at such a move but not the British, and thank God for that too.

My query is why do so many people were another country’s flag on their clothes and why the Union Jack overwhelmingly?

I think this is in the Pacific. It is not very deep if i saw right. I saw something on tv about it about a year or so ago.

Its shallow enough that a diver could easily swim down and stand on the deck of a aircraft carrier.

I dont know how old the ships are, if they are world war 2 ships or more modern ones.

I am pretty sure its not a gunery range targets, just a group of naval ships that were for some reason sunk.

if anyone knows what i am talking about and can give me a link to information on this please let me know.

The re-election of Lincoln in 1864 was not a foregone conclusion. In fact, had it not been for the direct actions of one man, who changed the course of the election, Lincoln would not have been re-elected, the Democratic candidate would have taken office, and most likely the Civil War would have resulted in a negotiated end with two seperate countries. Who is this man? The only hint I will provide right now is that he didn't like Lincoln very much in 1864, but knew what the result would be if Lincoln lost. You might like this man, you might hate him, or most of you have probably never heard of him - but he did something directly responsible, more than any one person, for it happening. Ten points to the first person who can tell me who and how.

I am doing a paper for school and I would like to know what it was like for anyone out there who may have grown up in the 50's. Do you remember the Civil rights, or womens' movement? What was your particular situation? What are some of the things you remember, that compared to today, are extremely different?
