this sounds like you're asking us to do your homework for you, but I'll answer anyway and give you something to think about.......

folks suddenly realized that "equal" rights also meant "equal" responsibilities...so amongst other things the ERA would make women eligible for the draft and would do away with alimony.....and suddenly support dropped WAY off......

The national debate on the E.R.A. has largely subsided because of expanded interpretations of existing statutes and constitutional provisions which have afforded more equal legal treatment of men and women. In Congress, supporters of the E.R.A. have re-introduced the amendment every term since 1982 without success.
Phyllis Schafly believes if the E.R.A. amendment passed, it would take away many Americans privileges, especially those of women. She believed passage of the amendment would lead to " women being drafted by the military and to public uni-sex bathrooms." She attempted to end all -male selective service system, claiming it encouraged gender discrimination.
In 1967 Schafly launched the Eagle Trust Fund for receiving donations related to conservative causes, then in 1972, she founded the Eagle Forum Newsletter aimed at defeating the E.R.A.

Critics, claiming she is anti-feminist and pro-family, yet she has had a career and been on the road most of her life, say she is living a double standard.
She has been criticized for dispersing disinformation about sex education in the public schools and working against federally funded day-care and reproductive rights.
