I think this is in the Pacific. It is not very deep if i saw right. I saw something on tv about it about a year or so ago.

Its shallow enough that a diver could easily swim down and stand on the deck of a aircraft carrier.

I dont know how old the ships are, if they are world war 2 ships or more modern ones.

I am pretty sure its not a gunery range targets, just a group of naval ships that were for some reason sunk.

if anyone knows what i am talking about and can give me a link to information on this please let me know.

Groups of ships were sunk during atomic tests in the 50's and 60's. It was important to know what effect a atomic blast would have on hull designs and systems.

Single ships are often sunk to test weapons, i.e. anti ship missiles and torpeados. They'll also contain sensors to measure how long bulk heads and doors hold out against blast damage and water pressure.

Sometimes ships are sunk intentionally to create man made reefs. These can then be dived at a later date.

Of course the greatest number of big ships sunk at the same time might be at Scapa Flow.

look up "Bikini Island" on the net....there were two A-bomb tests there in 1947 to see the results of a-bomb blasts on ships.....about 100 ships, ranging from the carrier Saratoga to the battleships Arkansas and Pennsylvania, the Japanese Nagato and German cruiser Prinz Eugen down to small 40 foot landing craft were sunk in two explosions....and yes you can dive on them.......

and yes the bathing suit is named after the island......

the other place where lots of WW2 ships are sunk is in Truk lagoon....all Japanese sunk in air raids during 1943-44.......very popular dive site....
